Gm has had an ongoing problem with intermediate steering shafts that loosen and rattle in their avalanche models. The speedometer in my '05 avalanche stays at zero while driving or reads anywhere form 20-40 MPH slower than I am going. The passlock system that comes on the 2005 chevy avalanche can be bypassed by a pin hole in the drivers side key tumbler. Shuts off the system and interior items are accessible to thieves. A alternative security system has to be added to be secure. Chevy doesn't provide this. It has to be aftermarket.
Complaints are owner reports to NHTSA, not verified defects. One complaint can name several components, so shares add up to more than 100%.
